Symphonic Send-off
The Europe Tour Preview Concert
Elgar and Dvořák
Plus the exclusive unveiling of Season 2026
Wednesday 13 August 2025
Hamer Hall, Arts Centre Melbourne
Before embarking on its first European tour in more than a decade, the MSO presents a Symphonic Send-off followed by an exclusive sneak peek of Season 2026.
Chief Conductor Jaime Martín leads the full force of the Orchestra as they perform two works from the UK and Europe tour repertoire.
After years of preparation and anticipation, the MSO is performing in Scotland (Edinburgh International Festival), Spain (Santander Festival), Italy (Südtirol Festival), Germany (Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg) and England (BBC Proms) in late-August, but not before a fitting farewell to its wonderful hometown audience.
Symphonic Send-off will transport the audience to a sunny European summer’s evening with Elgar’s In The South, which will be performed at Edinburgh International Festival and Hamburg’s acclaimed Elbphilharmonie, and Dvořák’s Sixth Symphony, which will feature at Südtirol Festival in Italy and the BBC Proms at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
Radiating sun-soaked energy and lyrical beauty, Elgar's In The South (Alassio) is the English composer’s reflection on the glory that was the Roman Empire and the beauty that was the Italian countryside. The piece was inspired during a sojourn in Alassio on the Italian Riviera, where Elgar and his wife spent several months in late 1903.
The program concludes with the warm, folk-inspired charm of Dvořák’s Sixth Symphony – Jaime Martín's favourite Dvořák symphony! Featured in the MSO’s 2024 five-star (Limelight) album release, Dvořák’s Sixth Symphony is heavily inspired by the music of Brahms and Wagner, along with his signature incorporation of elements from Bohemian folk music. Described as one of the most majestic in the symphonic literature, its grand, sweeping melodies take us on a journey ending in radiant, sunny high spirits.
Following the one-hour performance, the audience is invited to stay in Hamer Hall for the unveiling of the 2026 MSO season. This exclusive launch event will showcase what's in store for 2026 and provides the first opportunity to collect the Season 2026 brochure!
