Applications for the 2024 MSO First Voices program are now open. Applications close on Sunday 9 July 2023.
Eligibility
The MSO First Voices program is open to two Australian First Nations composers annually.
Entry Requirements
To apply, submit an application form with your details and a short statement about your interest, potential, commitment and connection to composing. You will also need to submit an example of your ability to compose/write music.
Sample Composition
Your sample composition could include:
- Written notation or scores
- Audiovisual sample of a composition – audio or video recording
Application Statement
Your statement can be a short video or written statement and include information about yourself and your work and will be assessed through the criteria below.
- Potential as a composer of orchestral music
- Commitment to career path
- Understanding of the demands of a compositional career
- Connection with and contribution to culture
- Openness to growth and learning as a composer
The intention of the program is to support First Nations composers as they prepare for a diverse range of musical careers.
Applications are assessed by a panel including MSO First Nations Creative Chair Deborah Cheetham Fraillon AO, and MSO musicians and staff.
