Applications to the MSO Academy 2026 program are now open.

We are accepting applications for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, tenor trombone, percussion, violin, viola, cello and double bass. Bass trombone applicants are encouraged to apply, but are accepted on a case-by-case basis.

There is no age limit for applicants, though the opportunity is best suited to candidates just embarking on their careers as postgraduates and under the age of 35.

Applications are open to Australian citizens and permanent residents, and New Zealand citizens.

  • Round 1 applications due by 11:59pm Wednesday 23 July 2025
  • Round 1 results notified by Friday 15 August
  • Round 2 live auditions Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 September
  • Further interviews will be conducted online after the live auditions

    - CV/resume outlining relevant experience and training, and a one-page cover letter. Applications without a CV and cover letter will not be considered.

After submitting this form, you will need to submit your recorded audition links and declaration form to us by email at lei@mso.com.au.

Recorded audition requirements

  • Auditions must be recorded unaccompanied. Audio only - video is not required
  • Each excerpt must be submitted as a separate file, with filenames clearly showing the name of the excerpt – please see below for details on how to submit your recordings
  • Recorded auditions must not be edited (other than cuts between excerpts). Please do not apply reverb, compression, or any other effects
  • Recorded auditions must all be recorded on the same day, in the same venue
  • We recommend using a high-quality microphone in a quiet environment

Only recordings that follow the audition requirements will be accepted.
