Providing young instrumentalists a vital final bridge to a successful career, the MSO Academy is a paid opportunity best suited to post-graduate musicians embarking on their career as professional musicians. Entry to the Academy is by audition.

Eligibility

The MSO Academy 2023 program is open to the following instruments: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, bass trombone, tuba*, percussion*, violin, viola, cello, double-bass and harp*.

*NB program content for tuba, percussion and harp will be by agreement on a case-by-case basis.

There is no age limit for applicants, though the opportunity is best suited to candidates just embarking on their careers as postgraduates and under the age of 35.

Entry requirements

Applications to the MSO Academy 2023 program close on 26 August 2022.

Entry to the program is via a two-step application and audition process. There is a strict minimum playing standard and no minimum intake. Only those applicants of suitable playing standard will be considered for a place in the program.

First Round

  • Written application
  • Recorded audition

Second Round – by invitation to successful First Round Candidates only

  • Live audition – excerpts to be provided to successful Round One candidates only
  • Interview

Both rounds are assessed by a panel of MSO Musicians and MSO Academy committee members.
