Yinuo Mu has been Principal Harpist of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra since 2013. She has performed in leading concert halls worldwide, including Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, the Concertgebouw, the Elbphilharmonie, Suntory Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, and the Sydney Opera House. As a guest harpist, she has appeared with major orchestras across Australia and the United States, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Houston Symphony, San Diego Symphony, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.
Yinuo is also active as a soloist, chamber musician, and educator. She has appeared as a concerto soloist with the MSO and other Melbourne-based orchestras. She regularly tutors for the Australian Youth Orchestra and presents masterclasses at the University of Melbourne and Monash University.
Born in Qingdao, China, Yinuo began studying piano at the age of five and took up the harp at ten after entering the Central Conservatory of Music. She holds degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, the Cleveland Institute of Music, and Boston University. Her awards include the Grand Prize from the American String Teachers Association and the American Harp Society’s Ann Adams Award.
Away from the harp, Yinuo enjoys cooking, hiking, and spending time in nature.
