Nico Fleury began his studies of Natural and French horn at the age of eight. Upon completing his studies in France, he continued his education at the Royal College of Music London under the guidance of professors Timothy Brown, Timothy Jones and Sue Dent. He graduated in 2009 with distinction and The Tagore Gold Medal, which was awarded by King Charles.
Nico is currently Principal Horn of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Prior to that, Nico was Principal Horn in the Aurora Orchestra (2010-2019), the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (2017-2019) and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (2013-2017). Some key performances included Mozart concerti for horn, and Britten Serenade for horn, tenor and strings broadcast live on BBC Radio 3.
Nico is a frequent guest in numerous orchestras around the world such as The London Symphony Orchestra, The Royal Opera House, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, and the Australian Chamber Orchestra. Nico has performed the most demanding pieces of the orchestral repertoire alongside conductors such as Charles Dutoit, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Lorin Maazel and Valery Gergiev.
Nico is a passionate Chamber musician and has appeared in international music festivals around the world, including Highgate Chamber Music Festival (London, UK) and Horten Kammermusikkfest (Norway). In 2021, Nico toured Australia with Musica Viva starring the Mozart and Brahms horn trios with Emily Sun (violin) and Amir Farid (piano). Nico has recorded the entire work of Leonard Bernstein for Brass for the Deutsche Gramophone label alongside soloists of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
After having been appointed professor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London in 2017, Nico keeps teaching a priority, and regularly gives classes around the world. Examples include the Royal College of Music London, Salt Lake City University USA, Singapore Youth Orchestra, and the Australian National Academy of Music.
