Japanese-Australian Syrah Torii holds a Master of Music (Opera Performance) from the Melbourne Conservatorium, is an alumna of Melbourne Opera’s Richard Divall Emerging Artists Programme and was the recipient of the Victorian Opera Emerging Artist Prize.

In 2024 Syrah sang La Frugola in Il tabarro (Victorian Opera/Sydney Festival) and Suzy/Lolette in La rondine (Victorian Opera). That same year she was a finalist in the Joan Sutherland & Richard Bonynge Bel Canto Award. She has performed in two world premieres by Victorian Opera: The Butterfly Lovers in 2022 and Galileo in 2023. In November Syrah will perform the role of Clarrie in Martin Wesley-Smith's Boojum! for Victorian Opera.

She is the current recipient of the Paulette Bisley Opera Scholarship and the Eleanor Blakemore Opera Society Scholarship with Melba Opera Trust.
