Japanese-Australian mezzo-soprano Syrah Torii holds a Master of Music (Opera Performance) from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, and she is a graduate of Melbourne Opera’s Richard Divall Emerging Artists Programme. In 2023 she won the Victorian Opera Emerging Artist Prize.
Her credits include Idomeneo (Victorian Opera, Opera Australia); Galileo, The Butterfly Lovers, Elektra and Melbourne, Cheremushki (Victorian Opera); and The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny (Melbourne Opera). In 2024 Syrah sings La Frugola in Il tabarro (Victorian Opera / Sydney Festival).
Syrah is the recipient of the Paulette Bisley Opera Scholarship and the Eleanor Blakemore Opera Society Scholarship with Melba Opera Trust.
