About the Jam

MSO’s relaxed and sensory-friendly Jam harnesses the power of music to inspire and engage young people with a sensory sensitivity, physical or intellectual disability and their teachers and carers.

The New World Jam is a fun-filled, participatory exploration of Dvořák’s famous 9th Symphony – ‘From the New World’.

Led by dynamic presenter and highly experienced educator Karen Kyriakou, the event includes a 40 minute participatory workshop followed by the opportunity for audience members to meet and engage with MSO’s professional musicians and their instruments.

The Jam takes place in the relaxed and safe environment of MSO’s home studio, Iwaki Auditorium. Elements are adapted to reduce anxiety and discomfort and to maximize engagement for all participants.
You can expect the following key elements:

• A downloadable Visual Story to enhance and support your experience (coming soon!)
• An AUSLAN supported session led by a highly experience facilitator
• A relaxed attitude to noise and movement during the workshop
• Lights stay on and participants are welcome to move about within the audience zone
• Friendly trained staff to support your experience
• A quiet, chill out zone in the foyer
