Jukka-Pekka will also conduct the MSO through a morning performance of the Firebird on Friday 26 October at 11am.
About the performance
Finnish conductor Jukka-Pekka Saraste will lead a hair-raising performance of the complete Firebird ballet. The music is as large and fantastic as the staging, which includes three harps and quadruple woodwind!
Stravinsky’s Funeral Song makes a welcome appearance, having waited almost 109 years for a second performance after the lost materials were discovered in a house move during 2015.
Croatian-born, Salzburg-trained virtuoso Dejan Lazić joins the MSO to perform Bartók’s last and most tender piano concerto, with his renowned fresh interpretations that have established him as one of the most unique and unusual soloists of his generation.
‘He lent Stravinsky’s music an exceptionally strong development…. One left the concert with a tingling sensation.’ Kölnische Rundschau on Jukka-Pekka Saraste.
