About the performance

The evening begins with Wagner’s blissful love song to his wife. And then, turns to a fierce tale of drama, passion and power.

The MSO teams up with acclaimed soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek to bring you Act 1 from the second opera of Wagner’s famous Ring Cycle.

A hunted man shelters from the storm, not knowing he has entered the house of his enemy. Ancient custom keeps him safe for the night, but the morning will bring death – until forbidden love turns winter to spring.

‘Powerful and impassioned, Die Walküre grips at every turn.’ Alastair McKean, renowned Orchestra Librarian.
