Stravinsky's Firebird

MSO Mornings

About the performance

Finnish conductor Jukka-Pekka Saraste will lead a hair-raising performance of the complete Firebird ballet. The music is as large and fantastic as the staging, which includes three harps and quadruple woodwind!

‘He lent Stravinsky’s music an exceptionally strong development…. One left the concert with a tingling sensation.’ Kölnische Rundschau on Jukka-Pekka Saraste

‘Playing Stravinksy’s Firebird in a youth orchestra opened my eyes to how fun and truly satisfying playing in an orchestra can be and helped set me on the path to where I am today. Although I have played and heard it many times since, I am each time astonished afresh at the originality of the sounds, and at the extraordinary range of expression Stravinsky draws from the orchestra.’ Nicholas Bochner, Assistant Principal Cello.
