Kodály Dances of Galanta
About the performance
Part concert, part guided-musical-journey; this is music education at its finest.
The first Ears Wide Open event for 2018 focuses on Dances of Galanta, a renowned orchestral work composed by Hungarian composer and ethnomusicologist Zoltán Kodály. This work uses motifs from the folk music of travelling bands from Kodály’s childhood and was composed for the 80th anniversary of the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra in 1933.
Ears Wide Open is hosted by much-adored Richard Gill – the founding Music Director and Conductor Emeritus of Victorian Opera; an admired conductor (specialising in opera and musical theater); and an internationally-regarded music educator.
Always a sell-out, we recommend securing your seat as soon as possible.
