About the program
Enjoy the colourful and imaginative orchestral works of the 18th century when MSO’s concertmaster Dale Barltrop directs musicians through the glorious Brandenburg Concertos. To contrast, two gripping twenty-first century creations: Smith’s Alchemy by Composer in Residence Carl Vine is a work that brilliantly showcases the virtuosity of the MSO String players, and Vox Amoris, where the composer uses solo violin to weave a love story scales a staggeringly vast emotional soundscape
‘The Brandenburg Concertos are pure joy to perform and the Vox Amoris is an intense and hauntingly beautiful work.’ Dale Barltrop, Concertmaster.
