One of the world’s rising musical stars, Stanislav Kochanovsky makes his debut with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, conducting Schumann’s Manfred Overture, Martinsson’s song cycle Ich denke Dein… and Rachmaninov’s gorgeous Symphony No.2.
Rachmaninov’s symphony will take audiences into the Romantic era with its sumptuously seductive and spacious melodies and textures. The success of this symphony brought Rachmaninov great acclaim with this work going on to win the prestigious Glinka Prize.
In the first half of the concert, be led into an enchantingly seductive garden of music with Swedish composer Rolf Martinsson’s beautifully moving arrangements of poems by Goethe, Rilke, and Eichendorff. The acclaimed Swedish soprano, Lisa Larsson, brings her hauntingly beautiful voice to the five songs for soprano and orchestra, which were written with her voice in mind.
