Mozart Amadeus Live in Concert

Benjamin Northey conductor
Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Chorus

One of the highlights of the season will be this live accompaniment of Miloš Forman’s incredible 1984 film Amadeus, adapted from the unforgettable play by the late Peter Shaffer about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s life and his (somewhat embellished) battle for supremacy with the Emperor’s composer: the jealous Antonio Salieri.

The film won eight Academy Awards®, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay, as well as a BAFTA for Best Sound.

In this concert, the MSO will accompany the film’s soundtrack, allowing audiences to see and hear first-hand the mechanics of a cinematic symphony orchestra. Some of Mozart’s best work is displayed in the film, including perennial favourites, like the Symphony No.25 and the Requiem.

Building on the previous successes of the MSO’s forays into live performances of film soundtracks, this concert is sure to be a suitably thrilling and moving finale to the Mozart Festival.

Running time: 3 hours and 40 minutes, including a 20-minute interval
