This season opening event begins with Orchestra and Chorus in the savage, sensuous music by Borodin that was later heard so unforgettably in the musical Kismet. (Remember Stranger in Paradise?) Superstar pianist Joyce Yang is soloist in Rachmaninov’s powerhouse piano showcase before principal guest conductor Diego Matheuz reveals the breathtaking landscape of Finland in Sibelius’ evocative masterwork.

Come and celebrate the beginning of the 2014 Season following the Saturday performance of Rachmaninov’s Paganini Rhapsody concert at a special cocktail reception in the Hamer Hall Stalls Foyer. After the exhilarating performance, join the MSO’s Principal Guest Conductor, Diego Matheuz, superstar piano soloist, Joyce Yang, and musicians of the MSO in welcoming in a great new season of music-making.
