Strauss Four Last Songs
Mahler Symphony No.1

Sir Andrew Davis conductor
Erin Wall soprano

A major event in Melbourne’s musical life begins with this first concert in Sir Andrew Davis’ cycle of the complete Mahler symphonies. In this unmissable musical experience, he brings together one of Mahler’s first masterworks – his bold and exciting First Symphony – with the Four Last Songs Strauss created as his swan-song to the world of vocal music. This ravishingly beautiful work will be sung by the young Canadian soprano hailed by The Guardian (UK) for ‘the extraordinary ease and sumptuousness of her tone, and a hovering, ecstatic quality in her singing.’

Pre-concert talk at 7pm
MSO’s Orchestra Librarian Alastair McKean will present a talk on the artists and works featured in the program.

2 hours with 20 minute interval.
