The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra regretfully advises that Tadaaki Otaka, who was to conduct this program, has cancelled his Australian performances due to ill health. The Orchestra’s management and musicians express their thanks to Bramwell Tovey for stepping in to conduct this program at such short notice.
Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No.4
Elgar Symphony No.2
Bramwell Tovey conductor
Kirill Gerstein piano
‘I have worked at fever heat and the thing is tremendous in energy,’ Elgar said of his Second Symphony. Here this deeply human masterwork comes to life under an ever-welcome visitor to the MSO, Bramwell Tovey. Rachmaninov’s Concerto has all the poetry and melodic beauty audiences love in the Russian composer’s music.
Join us for a free 20-minute pre-concert talk in Costa Hall, Geelong commencing at 7pm. Andrew Hall will present a talk on the artists and the works featured in the program.
