Tchaikovsky and Dvořák were born one year apart, and form a natural pairing, sharing an intense feeling for the uniqueness of their national identities. Tchaikovsky’s passionate symphony is a masterpiece of melodic colour and deep feeling that never fails to move the listener, and in his cello concerto Dvořák created a classic work for the instrument, one which revels in its ability to forge a singing line of emotional richness.
