Tickets & Seating
When can I purchase tickets to Season 2021 concerts?
Season 2021 tickets will first be available as part of a Create Your Own Series subscription, in which you can curate your own package of 3+ performances taking place in the January – June period. You can book your subscription tickets from 10am on 28 October, with seating assigned on a ‘best available’ basis. As we are still finalising seating maps with our venues, we are not able to assign specific seats at time of booking. However, we encourage you to book early for the best chance of securing your seating request as seats will be significantly limited due to reduced venue capacities.
Individual tickets for concerts in February–March will be available for purchase from 8 December at 10am, and individual tickets for concerts in April–June will go on sale in early 2021. The best way to ensure your seats to these concerts is via a subscription.
In the past I subscribed to a set series like MSO's Great Classics or Town Hall Series. Can I renew this series?
Due to the change in programming format, we are unable to offer renewal of previously held series. If you held a set series subscription for 2020, we will honour your subscription seat(s) when these series return.
Instead, for Season 2021 you can Create Your Own Series, curating your own package of 3+ performances taking place in the January – June period.
I am a 2020 MSO Subscriber. Can I renew my seats or select new seats?
In line with social distancing, we are unable to offer renewal of previously held seats. If you held a set series subscription for 2020, we will honour your subscription seat(s) when these series return, as social distancing rules evolve.
To accommodate social distancing we will accept bookings by reserve and assign best available seating in order of booking. As we are still finalising seating maps with our venues, we are not able to assign specific seats at time of booking. You will receive confirmation of your seats by mid-December.

Can I book on behalf of a group?
Across our venues, seating will be socially distanced in line with government regulations. Each of our venues is different, and seating maps will vary in their layouts. Please note, in the interest of audience safety when booking for large groups we may not always be able to seat each member of your party together. If you have specific concerns, please contact our Box Office on (03) 9929 9600 (Mon-Fri, 10am-6pm) or email email@example.com.
Where possible, please provide us with the contact details of those who are booking with you to assist us in the instance that we need to provide details for contact tracing.
Please note that COVID-Safe policies may vary by venue and may be updated in coming months as restrictions change. These will be confirmed ahead of each MSO performance and sent to you in a pre-concert email.
Where can I find information about rescheduled 2020 concerts?
Some performances from 2020 have been or will be rescheduled into 2021. Please visit this page to see an updated list of rescheduled performances. We will email ticket holders closer to these performance dates regarding safety protocols and expectations, and any other COVID-safe measures in line with government regulations.
I’ve left a message with your Box Office. When will you call me back?
Our Box Office team has been working remotely during 2020. We thank you for your patience and request that you leave a message for our Box Office team to call you back as soon as possible to answer your questions and reserve your subscription tickets.
What safety measures will be in place at concert venues?
The safety of our audience is paramount. While the music you experience in the hall will be of the high quality you can expect from our Orchestra, the concert hall will look a little different.
When you attend a concert, you will need to follow the venue’s COVID-safe procedures which may include wearing a mask, sanitising your hands, and taking part in a temperature check upon entry to the concert hall.
To reduce handling and exchange of physical collateral, tickets and programs will be digital whenever possible. Concerts will be shorter in length and without interval to reduce foyer interactions.
To ensure the safety of our musicians and audience, the seating capacity has been reduced and seats will be left empty in line with relevant social distancing rules.
The MSO requests all ticket holders follow the Victorian Government’s “How to stay safe & well” advice:
- Stay home if you have any COVID-19 symptoms
- Wash your hands
- Keep your distance - stay 1.5 metres away from people you don’t live with
- and, wear a face mask.
How full will concert venues be?
We have been working with all of our venues to ensure a socially-distanced and safe concert experience for you. As of October 2020, we are planning for our venues to seat between 15-25% of regular standard capacities. This includes additional spacing between the stage and front row of seats. Of course, we expect these figures will change as social distancing restrictions ease, and we will update this page as required. Given the smaller-than-usual venue capacities, we encourage you to book early, as we expect most MSO concerts to sell out.
What will the concert format be?
Concerts will be shorter and without an interval to allow for audience comfort. In order to perform to as many music lovers as possible, often the MSO will perform two different programs under the same conductor, with a 90 minute break inbetween.
To attend both programs, you will need to purchase an individual ticket to each event, or include both concerts in your Create Your Own Series subscription. We cannot guarantee that the same seat will be available for each program.
If I have COVID-19 symptoms and cannot attend a concert, can I get a refund on my ticket?
Your safety and the safety of your fellow audience members is paramount. If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms we encourage you to contact the MSO Box Office at your earliest convenience. Requests for refunds must be received in writing 5+ hours before your scheduled performance time. Where possible, we will provide the option to exchange your ticket for another performance, or issue a gift card to the value of your ticket(s). Please note, refund/exchange/gift card requests cannot be finalised until confirmation has been provided by an MSO Box Office staff member.
Will food and beverage facilities be open at the venues?
Food and beverage facilities will be available in line with venue COVID-safe procedures. Options available may evolve as restrictions change – be sure you are opted-in to receive emails from the MSO so we can keep you informed through our pre-concert communications.
Is there a Season 2021 Brochure?
No. In order to reduce handling of physical materials and given the nature of season planning for 2021 we are not producing a printed brochure for Season 2021. All concert information will be available on our website, or viewable in this downloadable PDF.
How will the musicians on stage observe social distancing?
On stage, our musicians will practice social distancing, with a maximum number of musicians determined by venue and government regulations. In line with this on-stage capacity, our Artistic Planning team have devised programs to be performed by appropriately-sized ensembles for each venue.
Will interstate or international guest artists be quarantined?
Season 2021 celebrates local homegrown talent, and throughout the season we are excited to welcome a number of interstate and international artists to our stage. By performing with the MSO in 2021, visiting artists have agreed to follow the relevant guidelines in relation to quarantine upon arrival and departure.
