Gaze upward.

The starlit sky unfolds in all its luminosity, brought to life by the MSO Chorus and Auslan Choir.

Through resplendent choral textures, evocative poetry and creative interpretation through visual language, these contemporary works explore humanity's enduring fascination with the night sky, dreams, and the mysteries that lie beyond our everyday experience.

Cecilia McDowall’s Music of the Stars weaves lustrous vocal lines into a soundscape that evokes the vastness of the cosmos. The work of well-known American astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson is included in the text, exploring the concept of light and how it is broken down to better understand the universe. It’s a piece that captures both the grandeur of the world around us and an intimate sense of wonder.

Ola Gjeilo's Dreamweaver turns inward, creating an atmosphere of serenity and reflection. With text based on a Norwegian folk poem, Dreamweaver is characterised by flowing melodies, lush harmonies, and a sense of quiet transcendence. The work unfurls like a dream, gentle and uplifting.

This program also includes the world premiere of an MSO Commission from 2027 Cybec Young Composer in Residence, Lucy Blomfield.
