Leonard Weiss conducts while Concertmaster Natalie Chee takes the lead in Vaughan Williams’s The Lark Ascending, soaring above the orchestra in a piece that invites the listener into a world of quiet wonder and reflection.
In contrast, The Flight of the Bumblebee is frantic and agile, with rapid passages creating the illusion of a bee buzzing through Hamer Hall.
The mood shifts again with the mythic and thundering Ride of the Valkyries, before dancing the night away with Copland’s Hoe-Down and selections from Bizet’s Carmen.
Spanning opera, ballet, film and symphonic repertoire, these works have earned an enduring place in the hearts of audiences for generations.
