About this performance

About this performance

Over a celebrated career, Emma Donovan has enchanted audiences with her mesmerising voice and commanding stage presence.

This NAIDOC Week, Emma reunites with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra to bring Take Me to the River to life – a tribute to the timeless soul classics that shaped her music and scored the memories of an entire generation.

With orchestral arrangements by Alex Turley, this night is a powerful tribute to the soul music that continues to flow through generations. Don’t just follow Emma to the river – dive in as the vocal powerhouse reimagines enduring songs on an epic symphonic scale.

Hear the works of legendary artists from Al Green and Aretha Franklin to Archie Roach, as Emma – a proud Gumbaynggirr and Noongar woman – infuses these works with her own spirit and story bolstered by the full forces of the MSO.
