On 9 October 2018 at our Annual Fundraising Gala, we honoured our former Chairman, Harold Mitchell AC, with a Life Membership to recognise his long standing support and exceptional contribution.
Harold Mitchell was appointed to the MSO Board in 2008 and was Chairman from 2009 until 2015. His service and generosity have shaped the MSO and cemented its local and international reputation.
“While Harold was Chairman, the MSO evolved and grew, particularly though our audience development and community engagement activities,” said Michael Ullmer, Chair of the MSO Board.
“During his tenure, the MSO Education Advisory Group was established, as well as our flagship programs The Pizzicato Effect, Education Week, Ears Wide Open, Symphony in a Day, and the launch of our iphone app, MSO Learn.
“He was a champion of expanding our repertoire and concert formats to reach diverse audiences through our Chinese New Year concerts, Secret Symphony series and the Dr Who Symphonic Spectacular.
“Harold has always been a passionate advocate for the orchestra. He is a frequent face at our concerts and has been a generous donor for many years, helping to support international tours, artist chairs, education initiatives, as well as the MSO Foundation.
“It is fitting that we publicly thank him and honour his contribution with a Life Membership of the MSO,” said Mr Ullmer.
