Meet the Conductor: Richard Egarr

It’s always a pleasure performing in Australia. The audiences are so fresh and keen, and the musicians too!

Mozart is the ultimate musician’s musician and one always learns a lot when performing his music – and that is a good thing!

Even though it will be mid-winter, I’m looking forward to being able to wander around and just enjoy the city.

I always wanted to be a musician, but when I’m not making music I love watching Star Trek (I speak a little Klingon), South Park and listening to Prince and Cliff Richard.

I have always drawn inspiration from great performers (including Prince and Cliff) and teachers such as Bernstein, Stokowski and David Munrow in particular.

All I will say about the upcoming Mozart Festival is that it won’t be boring. Be prepared for anything to happen!

Richard Egarr conducts Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, MSO Plays Mozart 40 and Mozart’s Requiem as part of the Mozart Festival 14-23 July.
