• Melbourne Symphony Orchestra launches its 2015 season
• Free performance at The Astor Theatre
• Opportunity to win the first ever MSO Golden Ticket
• Discover the MSO in unexpected locations throughout the city
The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is set to launch its 2015 season at the iconic Astor Theatre with a free one-night-only concert on Tuesday 14 October.
This special event will celebrate the connection between music and film with the MSO performing a repertoire of popular film scores in front of The Astor Theatre’s heritage-listed screen.
MSO Managing Director André Gremillet said this unique event was a great opportunity to discover the exciting season ahead.
“Orchestral music and cinema have a longstanding bond and this mini concert will explore this connection with a free performance for music lovers and movie buffs alike,” said Mr Gremillet.
The Orchestra will provide a taste of the 2015 season by performing repertoire from “cult classics” featured in next year’s program at the iconic cinema. This performance will include works by Albinoni, Beethoven, Jonny Greenwood, Strauss and Nigel Westlake and will kick start a week-long city adventure offering Melburnians the chance to experience the MSO in unexpected locations.
“Prior to tickets for our 2015 season going on sale, we are encouraging the community to further explore our great city and discover the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in places where you have never seen us before.
“We have commissioned celebrated local street artists to create unique visual interpretations of concerts featured in our 2015 line up. We are also giving one lucky person the chance to win the first ever MSO Golden Ticket – two tickets to every program in the 2015 season,” said Mr Gremillet.
Tickets to the MSO’s 2015 season go on sale on Thursday 23 October. For further information visit www.mso.com.au
