MSO Symphony in a Day: Ode to Joy

Tuesday 11 & Friday 14 June 2019 | Hamer Hall

*Applications are now closed!

Calling community orchestral musicians and community singers aged 18+ to become a member of the MSO or MSO Chorus for a day and give your debut performance on the Hamer Hall stage!

This is your opportunity to join the world-class musicians of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Chorus under the baton of MSO Associate Conductor and Limelight 2018 People’s Choice Australian Artist of the Year, Benjamin Northey.

Experience the once in a lifetime opportunity of side-by-side rehearsals and sectional coaching culminating in a performance in Hamer Hall of the grand finale to Beethoven’s glorious ninth symphony, the timeless, ‘Ode to Joy’.

Instrumentalists: If you are grade 6 level or above, are aged 18 or over as of June 2019, we would love to hear from you.

Singers: You’ll be singing alongside members of the MSO Chorus and you’ll need to be able to read music, sing in tune, and feel confident singing your own part. As a rough guide, if you’re grade 4 level or above then we’d love to hear from you. We’ll be performing the piece in its original German too, so it’s a bonus if you feel capable of quickly mastering the pronunciation.

Positions will be allocated to eligible applicants on a first-come-first-served basis. Your position in the orchestra or chorus is subject to payment of the $40 participation fee. Please ensure that you are able to commit to all rehearsals and the performance.
