Hayden was the 2024 Bassoon Fellow with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Last year he completed a Bachelor of Music (Performance) with a major in International Relations and a Bachelor of Music Studies at the University of Sydney where he was awarded first-class honours. He studied bassoon with Matthew Wilkie and Andrew Barnes.
Hayden has been a guest principal with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and Opera Australia Orchestra and was the principal bassoon on the Australian Youth Orchestra’s 2025 European Tour under conductor David Robertson performing at the Rheingau Music Festival, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and summer series concerts at the Concertgebouw and Musikverein. He has been a member of AYO since 2021.
In 2023, he performed Beethoven’s Septet with The Academy of St Martin in the Fields in the Utzon Room, Sydney Opera House.
Hayden has also been part of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music’s Winterschool program and is a founding member of the Sydney-based Wollemi Quintet and Chamber Society.
