Ryan Xu grew up in Sydney studying cello through the Suzuki method. He is currently in his second year of undergraduate studies at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music under Dr Richard Narroway.
As an orchestral musician, Ryan has been Principal cellist of the Conservatorium High School Symphony Orchestra, the Sydney Harbour Ensemble, and is currently the Principal cellist of the University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
Ryan has won numerous awards and top places in several competitions and showcases, such as being selected for the 2024 HSC ENCORE showcase where he had the opportunity to perform solo at the Sydney Opera House, and most recently he won the 2025 University of Melbourne Solo Artist Competition giving him the opportunity to have his orchestral soloist debut with the University's Symphony Orchestra in April of 2026.
After graduating, Ryan intends to pursue a professional career in orchestral performance and continue his studies overseas.
