Cian Malikides is an Australian trombonist whose musical journey began in Sydney, where studying with Nigel Crocker sparked his passion for music. During studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Cian broadened his experience internationally, attending the Estivo Summer Chamber Music School in Verona, the Aspen Music Festival in the USA, and the Stockholm Chamber Brass Academy in Sweden.
In 2018, Cian was awarded the Brass Prize at the Gisborne International Music Competition and was accepted into the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM), where he studied with Scott Kinmont and Michael Mulcahy. In 2023, he joined the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Academy, an experience that proved pivotal in his artistic and professional development. Along the way, Cian has been fortunate to learn from and be influenced by many outstanding teachers, including Nick Byrne, Ashley Carter, Richard Shirley and Don Immel.
Since his time at the MSO academy, Cian has enjoyed a varied career as a freelancer, performing with professional ensembles around the country.
