Cindy Watkin


Cindy Watkin began her instrumental studies with Brian Blake. After completing her Bachelor of Music (Hons) and graduating top of the class in Performance at Melbourne University under the guidance of Christopher Martin, Cindy continued her viola studies with Jan Sedivka and Keith Crellin.

A member of the Melbourne Symphony’s viola section since 1985 Cindy has been an active participant in the orchestra’s Community Outreach Program. In 2005 she was one of six players from the orchestra to be involved in an award winning collaboration with the theatre company RAWCUS for the Melbourne International Arts Festival. In 2007 she was one of four players to collaborate with the Music Therapy Unit at the Royal Children’s Hospital in research that culminated in the publication of ‘Music in Health’ Guidelines for musicians playing music in hospitals.

Cindy loves to teach and enjoys tutoring young musicians from the Melbourne Youth Strings and the Melbourne Youth Chamber STRINGS.
