The MSO joined the Keychange movement in early 2020 and was the first professional Australian orchestra to do so. Keychange is an international campaign which invests in emerging talent whilst encouraging music festivals, orchestras, conservatoires, broadcasters, concert halls, agents, record labels and all music organisations to sign up to a 50:50 gender balance pledge by 2022.
The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is committed to promoting a culture that celebrates and supports the diversity of its people and community. We aspire to lead the way for equality across our Board, staff and musicians, and throughout our artistic programming.
1. Maintain gender parity on the MSO Board and within the organisation across the administration team and musicians.
2. Work towards appropriate gender balance and representation in our concert seasons.
3. Commit to equitable gender and cultural representation in our emerging artists programs.
4. Commit to equitable gender and cultural representation in new work commissioned and presented.
