A journey through musical tempests – of the man-made kind or the kind that cause shipwrecks – culminates in Adès’ groundbreaking Tevot, a Hebrew word meaning ‘arks’. Adès has taken ‘ark’ to mean our planet: ‘a spaceship,’ he says, ‘that carries us – and several other species – through the chaos of space in safety…it’s the idea of the ship of the world’. This landmark concert showcases the talents of a major musical figure of our time.
Conversation with conductor Thomas Adès and the MSO’s Director of Artistic Planning, Huw Humphreys.
