Bach orch. Sir Andrew Davis Passacaglia and Fugue, BWV 582
Poulenc Organ Concerto
Brahms Symphony No.2

The Melbourne Town Hall’s magnificent organ takes centre stage for the stirring concerto by Francis Poulenc, featuring as soloist the man who has been described as the Vladimir Horowitz of the organ. Before the concerto, the spirit of the organ is given orchestral colour in Sir Andrew Davis’ own transcription of Bach’s mighty Passacaglia and Fugue. The concert culminates in Brahms’ richly romantic Second Symphony, in which the composer basks in the sunny inspiration of Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony.

Event Duration: 2hrs
