The piano concerto by Norway’s greatest composer, Edvard Grieg, is one of the most popular in the wolrd. For this special Hamer Hall performance, master Australian pianist Piers Lane is joined by distinguished British conductor Sir Andrew Davis.
2 TCHAIKOVSKY’S PATHÉTIQUE
Saturday 22 September at 8pm
Two romantic favourites in one unmissable program: Tchaikovsky’s Pathétique symphony – a masterpiece of melodic colour and beauty – and Dvořák’s passionate, lyrical cello concerto. This concerto is a classic work for a beautiful instrument.
3 DURUFLÉ REQUIEM
Saturday 17 November at 8pm
The MSO and Chorus, with vocal soloists, perform Duruflé’s tender and beautiful Requiem, one of the loveliest of all works for chorus and orchestra. Also on the program, international piano titan Garrick Ohlsson is soloist in Brahms’ mighty Piano Concerto No.1.
4 IAN BOSTRIDGE SINGS MOZART AND SCHUBERT
Saturday 8 December at 8pm
This program of pure musical beauty includes favourites by two of music’s most beloved composers. Ian Bostridge is one of the most in-demand singers of our time, and this rare Australian appearance will be a musical highlight of 2012.
