Schools & Teachers

Welcome to our 2017 Season for Schools. At the MSO, our school performances are always among the year’s highlights!

James Morrison is a name synonymous with Australian music, and in 2017, the legendary trumpeter will present our flagship Education Week in May alongside Associate Conductor Benjamin Northey. You and your students will dive head first into the music, instruments and exciting world of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

Offering the perfect entry into the music-charged world of Education Week is Meet the Orchestra with James Morrison, suitable for Kindergarten-Grade 6. With concerts for lower primary, upper primary, and families, these shows are sure to be a lot of fun. Morrison will also perform with the MSO to Years 7-12 when MSO + James Morrison fill the brilliant Hamer Hall.

While teachers will know Frank Woodley from his stand up and TV performances over the past 20 years, in The Composer is Dead he teams up with the MSO to bring some laughter to Hamer Hall. With text by Lemony Snicket, it’s a perplexing orchestral ‘whodunnit’ that he’ll need your help to solve!

In September, a very special new production of Peter and the Wolf in Hollywood will bring the best-selling iTunes app to the concert hall. It tells the untold prequel to Prokofiev’s iconic Peter and the Wolf, set in modern day Hollywood. Enjoy this humorous and topical fresh take on a much-loved classic, exploring themes of family and friendship, courage and heroism.

In addition to our wonderful performances, our Open Rehearsals allow students to where students can see MSO Chief Conductor Sir Andrew Davis, the dinosaurs of Jurassic Park and the students of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft.

The MSO also presents Work Inspirations – our work experience program – and for those students graduating soon (or enthusiastic young teachers), our MUSO program offers discounted ticket offers for 18–35 year-olds throughout the year.

So what are you waiting for? Book your students in for an orchestral experience they will remember forever!
