Cybec 21st Century Australian Composers’ Program
The Cybec Foundation supports the MSO in organising and running the Cybec 21st Century Australian Composers’ Program each year.
Annually the program selects four participants to be mentored by leading composers across Australia and each composer is commissioned to write a 10-minute piece.
Since the program was introduced in 2003, 50 composers from across Australia have had works commissioned and performed by the MSO. Most have continued onto widely diverse creative practices and the MSO has offered several subsequent commissions to graduates of the program.
2017 Cybec Application Form
Please complete the below form to apply for the 2017 Cybec 21st Century Composers' Program.
Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents living in Australia for the duration of the program (April 2017 - February 2018). Please note that the age limit has been extended from previous years; applicants are to be aged 35 and under from 1 April 2017.
In addition to completing this form, you will also be required to submit an already existing composition of your own. The submitted piece will show the panel your skills and experience in composition and therefore your suitability to be part of the 2017 Program. The piece should be one that you feel most represents your style and does not have to be written for orchestra, although, it is easier for the panel to compare and review the submitted pieces if they are orchestrated for orchestral musicians, as this is what the four Cybec program candidates will be commissioned to write for.
To apply, as well as completing the form below, you will be required to submit two hard copies of your score and two CD recordings of this work by post, postmarked no later than Friday 17 March 2017. If you would like your scores returned after the application process, please include a stamped, self-addressed envelope.
Scores and CDs should be addressed to:
Melbourne Symphony Orchestra
120-130 Southbank Blvd
Southbank, VIC 3006
