City Beats is a FREE annual program that provides school class groups from diverse backgrounds with an opportunity to make and respond to music in a highly creative environment. Co-presented with ArtPlay, the first three workshops will focus on collaborative composition, and playing and improvising on a range of percussion instruments. In the fourth workshop, the participants will have the opportunity to respond to the music they have composed through the medium of visual arts.

This fun and inclusive series of workshops will provide the participants with new skills and a whole lot of creative confidence. All workshops are held at ArtPlay on Birrarung Marr and are open to school groups aged 8 -12yrs with an interest in music and art. Each workshop has a capacity of 18 students and runs for two hours, commencing at 9.45 and 12.45 on the following dates:

Being included in the City Beats program has been hugely valuable to our school. It has exposed our students to ‘best practice’ and musical experiences that they otherwise would never have.
