11.8.10 The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is delighted to announce that Andrew Penrose is the winner of the 2010 MSO Snare Drum Award.
12.7.10: Musical brothers-in-arms, Stanley and Daniel Dodds perform with the MSO in its first regional tour for 2010 to Swan Hill (27 July), Shepparton (28 July) and Bendigo (29 July).
21.6.10: In his only Australian appearance, Grammy award winner, Marvin Hamlisch performs with the MSO on Satuday 10 July at the Arts Centre, State Theatre.
21.6.10: The MSO bids a fond adieu to Hamer Hall in two concerts on 26 and 28 June, as it closes for renovation for the next 18 months. $128.5million has been allocated by the Victorian government for the redevelopment of Hamer Hall and its surrounds.

17.5.10: Finnish pianist, conductor and composer, Olli Mustonen performs Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 under the baton of Andrew Litton, and the first concerts in his three-year Beethoven piano cycle with the MSO.

Release (15.4.10): The MSO today announced that legendary hit-maker, Burt Bacharach has cancelled his 2010 Australian tour. Mr Bacharach's recuperation is taking longer than expected after undergoing back surgery in Los Angeles earlier this year.
Release (13.4.10): Under the baton of this year's curator and conductor, Bramwell Tovey, the MSO celebrates the eclectic mixing of jazz and symphonic sounds in its contemporary music festival, Metropolis on May 1, 5 and 8 at the CUB Malthouse.

Release (22.3.10): With his Eroica Symphony, Beethoven redefined the genre, setting the course of symphonic writing into the Romantic era. Maestro Otaka conducts three performances of this work at the Arts Centre, Hamer Hall on April 15, 16 and 17.

Release (17.2.10): The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra opens its 2010 season with its first ever performance of Rachmaninov's The Bells, under the baton of one of the world's foremost interpreters of the composer's work, Vladimir Ashkenazy.
Release (10.2.10): The birds won’t be the only ones tweeting at the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s 2010 Sidney Myer Free Concerts this month. During one of the four concerts presented annually by the MSO, conductor Benjamin Northey will be broadcasting his thoughts and comments live, via twitter, to the audience in the Bowl and at home listening to the live broadcast on ABC Classic FM.
Release (3.2.10): New works by Amy Bastow and Annie Hsieh have been selected for performance in the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra's Metropolis concert on 5 May. These young composers recently participated in the MSO's artist development program - the Cybec 21st Century Australian Composers Program.
Release (28.1.10): Renowned punk violinist Nigel Kennedy returns to perform three concerts with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra on 11, 12 and 13 February at the Arts Centre, Hamer Hall, performing a diverse mix of Bach concertos to Kennedy's own arrangements of the expressive jazz of Duke Ellington for violin, orchestra and his own ensemble, skillfully juxtaposing them throughout the concert.
Release (21.1.10): The MSO's Managing Director Trevor Green retires from his post on 29 January 2010 after 11 years with the Orchestra, but his passion for classical music is as strong as ever.
