Timeline

There are few countries in the world which can match Australia in the variety and quality of music-making by its people. Music is, by its nature, a unique form of expression which is capable of directly defining and communicating the diverse expressions of a culture.

In Australia, we are fortunate to enjoy a rich and varied range of musical expression, which defines and communicates both to ourselves and to others, our emerging cultural identity.

Therefore, the concept of Australian music is quite difficult to grasp and orchestral music with its traditional Western European roots is even more difficult to describe.

Listen to the works of Anne Boyd, Percy Grainger, Peter Sculthorpe, Peggy Glanville Hicks, Carl Vine & Matthew Hindson. Just to name a few.
