Rhythm: flexible, less predictable, but with a constant tempo and metre.
Harmony and Texture: mostly homophonic, with modulations mainly to related keys. Specified chordal accompaniments to a melody. The continuo disappears.
Dynamics: flexible gradations of sound (crescendo and diminuendo).
Timbre: the orchestra was established in its modern form with strings providing the foundation and winds, brass and percussion in unequal proportions.
Musical forms: classical sonata, symphony, concerto, string quartet, divertimento. Opera was further expanded.
